Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute(CHORI), the research branch of Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland is seeking applications from qualified - motivated high school students in their junior and senior year of high school with at least one year in math and Biology to participate in our 2015 CHORI Summer student research program Clinical- Research for under represented high school students. The Program provides the students with a research training experience to stimulate interest in pursuing a career in biomedical, clinical and behavioral research in a friendly and nurturing environment.

How to Apply:

Students should submit the following:

1. Completed application form

2. Official Transcript

3. On a separate sheet of paper, please write an essay of 500 words or less that addresses the following topics:
   • Community and/or outreach activities you have participated in and/or organized independently or with any other organization.
   • The reasons why you want to participate in the CHORI Summer Student Research Program
   • The goals you hope to achieve through this program
   • Why you believe you should be chosen as a candidate for our program

4. Two letters of recommendation are required.  At least one teacher, and a counselor or school official can write letters.  They should address the applicant’s educational achievements and potential to succeed.  The letters of recommendation may be sent with the application in a sealed envelope or separately, however no application will be considered until all items are received.  All letters must be signed and written on school letterhead.

Undergraduate Summer Research Internship (Funded by the NIH- Pending)

How to Apply:

Students should submit the following:

1. Completed application form

2. A list of undergraduate courses taken and grades received (a non-official transcript is acceptable).

3. On a separate sheet of paper, please write an essay of 500 words or less that addresses the following topics:
   • Community and/or outreach activities you have participated in and/or organized independently.
   • Research opportunities you have participated in previously
   • Reasons why you want to participate in the CHORI Student Research Program
   • Goals you hope to achieve through this program
   • Why you believe you should be chosen as a candidate for our program

4. Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your interests, abilities, and/or career goals; the letters must address these issues.  Students are encouraged to check with their references to make sure these letters are delivered prior to the application deadline.  Applications without two letters of recommendation will not be considered (letter may be included with application in a sealed envelope or mailed separately).  All letters must be signed and on institutional letterhead.


5. A resume
