The Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP)


The Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) is an innovative career development program designed specifically for minority students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in high school in August or September 2015. The program’s primary goal is to increase the number of underrepresented students of color that attend college and major in accounting, finance or business. The 2015 ACAP summer residency week will be held at the University of California at Berkeley from July 12 – July 17, 2015. The summer residency program will include supervised corporate visits, team building activities, lectures and fun. And it’s FREE.


ACAP will:
• Create awareness to the vast opportunities available in the accounting, finance and business profession;

• Allow students to leverage accounting and finance concepts within your everyday life for financial empowerment;

• Generate opportunities to develop networking skills to assist in building relationships for future educational/professional advancement; and

• Provide students with the opportunity to move one step closer to understanding his or her career passion to prepare for college.


Requirements for participation:

1. Have a proven history of academic achievement (“B” grade point average or above preferred; however, all interested applicants with a desire to participate in the program will be considered)

2. Attend a local high school in the San Francisco/EastBay/South Bay Area

3. Complete the application, which requires the approval of your parent or legal guardian and a recommendation from your school counselor/teacher

4. Submit a copy of your high school transcript

5. Have completed your freshman (9th), sophomore (10th) or junior (11th) year of high school

6. Attend a 30-minute interview as part of the program selection process

7. Interviews tentatively planned for late May 2014, Final program decisions will be made by mid-June 2014

BIZCAMP!

Are you interested in business? Maybe in becoming an entrepreneur or your own boss?  Bizcamp NFTE will be hosting a 10-day program a​t LPS Oakland from June 22nd-July 3rd.

They are looking for 30 young people with an interest in learning about entrepreneurship through hands-on activities, 1:1 coaching, field trips to companies like Revolution Foods and Airbnb, and the culminating activity is a Business Plan competition at Mills College GSB Gathering Hall.  

The camp is funded by the Citi Foundation and all students will receive a $200 stipend for perfect attendance and compete for $2,000 in awards on July 3rd.

Complete applications are due by May 1st.  Students can complete most of the application with the online form and they will need one teacher recommendation, also an online form.  The paper application has two important sections that require signatures.  Those can be scanned and emailed.
