Marcus Foster Education Fund (MFEF)

Here's another GREAT local scholarship open to all students regardless of status!


Marcus Foster Education Fund (MFEF) administers, making REAL change a diversified community investment fund exclusively devoted to the post-secondary success of OUSD graduates.  Donors give to build community and change the narrative regarding OUSD, the city of Oakland and the potential of its students.  Students with need apply themselves for meaningful support in launching their post-secondary career.  


Scholarships range from $1000-$5000

CRITERIA & TIMELINE

Graduating high school seniors who are pursuing four-year institution, two-year institution, or trade/technical programs, are eligible to apply if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Currently an OUSD high school senior
  • Attended an OUSD public or charter school at least the last two years
  • Complete the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application by the March 2nd priority deadline
  • Plan to attend four-year institution, two-year institution, or trade/technical program in the fall following your graduation from high school
The application is scored on the following 4 components: 
Community Engagement/Life Experiences, Academic Performance, Essay and
Letter of Recommendation
The DEADLINE is on March 2, 2015. We notify applicants of their award status by mid-May and all recipients are required to attend an orientation and scholarship awards ceremony.

College Bound Brotherhood Scholarship Eligibility

*Student must currently be a senior in a high school within the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. OAKLAND-OUSD students will complete the Making REAL Change Scholarship to be eligible for this scholarship)
*Complete the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application by the March 2nd priority deadline
*Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) less than $10,000
*Plan to attend four-year institution or two-year institution in the fall following your graduation from high school
*Have a letter of recommendation from an adult who knows you well and can comment on something specific in your background
*When awarded, recipients are required to attend the College Bound Brotherhood events, including the orientation, the graduation ceremony held in late May 2015, the College Bound Brotherhood “Get Ready for College” event held in late June 2015 and persistence events in the winter 2015 and spring 2016

 Port of Oakland-OUSD Scholarship Eligibility

*Currently an OUSD high school senior
*Attended an OUSD public or charter school at least the last two years
*Complete the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application by the March 2nd priority deadline
*Plan to attend four-year institution, two-year institution, or trade/technical program in the fall following your graduation from high school
*Have a letter of recommendation from an adult that can speak on your experiences
*When awarded, recipients are required to attend an orientation and scholarship awards ceremony
*A 2.5 GPA is required for the community college/vocational school award and a 3.0 GPA for all other awards

 Clorox Partners-PUSD Scholarship Eligibility

*Currently a Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) high school senior
*Attended a PUSD public or charter school for at least the last two years
*Complete the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application by the March 2nd priority deadline
*Plan to attend a four-year institution, two-year institution, or trade/technical program in the fall following your graduation from high school
*Have a letter of recommendation from an adult that can speak on your experiences
*When awarded, recipients are required to attend an orientation and a district-led scholarship awards ceremony
