Are you thinking about what you plan to do this coming summer and have nothing in mind? If so, please take advantage and check out this listing of summer science opportunities for students interested in gaining work experience, extending their lab skills and/or going deeper into science!!! Many are in a close distance (UC Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, and others may allow you to do some traveling) and even better...some of these are PAID!!!!!

Eastmont Library Teen Advisory Board

Are you looking to get some community service hours in?

The Eastmont Branch Library is looking for students ages 12-18 to be apart of their Eastmont Library Teen Advisory Board!

By Joining Eastmount TAB, you can:

  • Gain Volunteer Hours 
  • See your ideas come to life in the Library

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation


Check out these 3 AWESOME scholarships!

  1. Coca-Cola Scholars Scholarship – $10,000-$20,000, High school seniors with a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA may apply on our website in August of their senior year until the October 31 deadline.
  2. Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team – Fifty Gold $1,500, fifty Silver $1,250, and fifty Bronze $1,000 scholarships. Current students at two-year community colleges may apply between October 1 and December 2. This scholarship is administered by Phi Theta Kappa, and application details can be found on their website, www.ptk.org.
  3. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise – 180 scholarships of $1,000. Current students at two-year community colleges may apply between February 27 and April 30. This scholarship is administered by Phi Theta Kappa, and application details can be found on their website, www.ptk.org.
Applicants must be:
  • Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the United States (or select DoD schools);
  • U.S. Citizens; U.S. Nationals; U.S. Permanent Residents; Refugees; Asylees; Cuban-Haitian Entrants; or Humanitarian Parolees;
  • Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application;
  • Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution;
  • Carrying a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school.

Get to Know Chalky!

Chalky is a free online platform for high school students to connect with college students/alumni at universities they're interested in. Their goal is to help as many high school students discover, apply to, and succeed in/beyond college as we can. Chalky helps students connect with college student mentors, ask college-related questions (www.chalky.co/questions), attend live talks with current college students (www.chalky.co/talks), read application essays from current students (www.chalky.co/essays), and do many other things all for free.

World Health Organization Invites Pictures of Health for Youth Photography Contest


The World Health Organization is accepting entries for a photography competition that portrays health and illness through the eyes of youth between the ages of 14 and 19.

Through the international competition, WHO is seeking photographs on the themes of Adolescents are healthy (engaging in healthy activities); Adolescents learn about health (health education); Adolescents use health services when needed; It can be difficult to stay healthy (images about the environment and risk-behaviors); and Adolescents are active in promoting health (advocating for health, participation).

Winners of the competition will receive the opportunity to work with WHO as one of ten contributing photographers for the Health for the World's Adolescents report. In addition, each winner will receive $1,000 to cover photography costs. The photographs will belong to the winners, however WHO will have the right to use them in the report and for future publications.

The competition is free to enter and is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 19 from all countries. Youth photographers under 18 must have the consent of a parent or a legal guardian to submit images to the competition.

The deadline for entries is October 15, 2013. Winners will be contacted individually by November 1, 2013, and will be expected to provide their photographs by December 1, 2013.

Students In Action

Students In Action is a national youth leadership program that will work with our students at Unity for the second year in a row. Currently active in 325 high school across the U.S., the program encourages high school students to get engaged and be the change that they wish to see in their communities through volunteer work.  We have 12 spots available for students to attend this leadership training in Mills High School, Millbrae, Ca, if you are interested please let your advisor know by Thursday the 12th. Do not miss out on this amazing opportunity!

2013 PBWC Young Women's Summit

The 2013 PBWC Young Women's Summit  presented by Juniper Networks is looking for female seniors ages 17+
